Advice for VERY High Risk Shielding Patients

If you have received a letter identifying you as extremely vulnerable but do not think this applies to you please contact the practice for the GP to review. When you have received a letter from the doctors or the government advising you that you are in the extremely vulnerable please register online for support https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus-extremely-vulnerable

Shielding patients can ask volunteers for short-term help by calling 0808 196 3646 between 8am and 8pm.

Support for Parents

At this challenging time, it is extremely important for you to know that COVID-19 is unlikely to make your child unwell, but they like everyone else might be infectious so staying at home when well remains the message. However, all the ‘normal’ illnesses that can make children severely unwell still remain and there is a major risk that parents may delay bringing their child to the attention of a healthcare professionals even if they are unwell because of concerns about COVID-19. GPs and hospitals are still providing the same safe care that they have always done for children . If you are not sure if your child is unwell and whether they need to be seen, click https://www.what0-18.nhs.uk/national call 111 or contact the surgery as normal for a telephone appointment, the doctor will then arrange an appointment at the practice if this is needed. Maternity Support

Chesterfield Royal have also set up an advice line specifically for pregnant women wanting advice or to ask questions regarding the corona virus pandemic. The number to call is 01246 512361 and this will be manned between 08:30 and 16:30. If you need advice outside of these hours then you will find contact numbers on the front of your handheld notes with the midwifes.

Mental Health Support

There is a lot of support for patients who currently have mental health conditions or people who feel they need support during the current coronavirus pandemic.

Domestic Abuse Support

There has been a significant rise in domestic abuse incidents during the pandemic. A recent report shows a 25% increase in calls to domestic abuse services in the last two weeks of lockdown. Locally, we saw more than a 50% increase in refuge referral requests last week alone. It is therefore vital that victims in lockdown are aware of how to get domestic abuse support through the pandemic.

Local Support

Derbyshire County Council can help you if you have no friends or family you can call on and:

you are self-isolating because you or a member of your household is at risk
you are struggling to meet your basic needs because of financial, social or health restrictions
you are pregnant
you have underlying health conditions
you are aged 70 or over.

They can help you with shopping, or fetching your prescription or finding someone to have a chat with.

Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm
Saturday 9am to 1pm.

One of the approved partner volunteer organisations will be in touch with you as soon as possible to offer you the help you need.

Chesterfield Volunteer Service offer a shopping and delivery service to anyone who is housebound, poorly or self isolating. This is an emergency service used for patients who need it. Ring 01246 276777 ideally before 2pm or visit http://chesterfieldvc.online/shoppinganddelivery/
